Jackson Bennett received a Fulbright grant with which he conducted research at the Université Mohammed V de Rabat to develop a predictive program that identifies regions at a high risk of water stress in order to support Morocco’s regional water management strategies. Bennett, who holds a master’s degree in interdisciplinary ecological sciences and engineering, became interested in the problems of water access at the beginning of the Flint water crisis, only 50 miles from his hometown. An avid whitewater kayaker, he approaches water management issues from multiple perspectives and has a history of involvement with community discussions regarding water management.

 

Bennett’s dedication is best summarized in his own words: “In coming years, our efforts to adapt to climate change will depend on our ability to manage resources responsibly and equitably. This is especially true in Morocco, a country where water stress is prevalent and new management strategies are required. As an engineer, I will dedicate myself to ensuring everybody has the resources necessary to guarantee a basic quality of life, starting with this project to support policymakers in their efforts to better manage limited water resources in Morocco. The time to act is now.”

 

Bennett intends to pursue a career post-Fulbright as a data scientist focusing on energy or water resources.
